🧵 Folio vs. Travelers notebook – What’s the Difference?
This is one of the top questions I get, and it’s a good one! These two styles look similar but function very differently depending on how you like to plan.
Leather folio
A folio cover is made to fit one notebook or planner perfectly.
It’s designed for the planner to be tucked into both front and back pockets (slots)—but if you prefer to only tuck in the back and leave the front free, that works too!
Folios have a sleek, minimal profile and are great for daily planning, journaling, or when you want a clean look with everything held securely in place.
Great for:
→ Hobonichi, Sterling Ink planners, Common Planner, Stalogy, Moleskine, and more!
Travelers notebook (TN)
TN covers are built for flexibility. They’re wider, and they come with elastic strings on the inside that let you stack multiple notebooks or inserts.
By default, all my TNs come with full-length slots on both sides, just like folios. You can tuck your planner into the back slot and use the front slot to store extras—like stickers, washi cards, or your favorite dashboard.
The elastics let you add inserts, journals, or planners, making it perfect if you love building a layered setup.
Elastic options:
- RTS Travelers notebook covers come with 4 elastics by default
- RTS Leather folios have the option of adding closure elastic
- Custom orders can be made with 2, 4, or 6 elastics, especially if you’re going with an extra-wide spine for a chunky, multi-notebook setup
